Oakwood Cardboard Boat Race Entries Needed
A’hoy mateys! Cardboard boat entries can now be submitted by individuals, businesses, churches and social groups for Chautauqua-Wawasee’s Hope Floats Cardboard Boat Regatta at Oakwood Beach, 702 E. Lake View Rd,. Syracuse, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. Entry is $25 and includes two tickets to Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting on Friday, May 31.
Life-size cardboard boats made entirely of cardboard and duct tape will consist of a one to three person crew. The winner of each heat will be awarded and will then compete in the final heat to determine overall winners.
First, second and third place winners will get trophies. The Wawa”SUNK”ed Award will be awarded to the most amusing “underwater” vessel. The “WOW”asee award will be a judge’s choice award based on creativity, team spirit. Judging will be for vessel and crew. Costumes and props are encouraged!
The People’s Choice Award will be decided by monetary votes that will be collected during Wine, Cheese and Chocolate tasting and until conclusion of race. All proceeds will help to fund Chautauqua-Wawasee programs and events.
Admission is free for spectators and fans, just bring a lawn chair or blanket and prepare to be entertained. Food, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
