Robert Burns Becht
Robert Burns Becht, 60, the beloved son of Burns S. Becht, Rochester, and Cuma C. Becht, left the bounds of Earth on Jan. 22, 2015.
Born in Kansas on Aug. 19, 1954, Becht grew to become a man unwavering in his love and commitment to the God of Creation, family and a league of dedicated friends, reflecting the values and enduring influence of his parents and grandparents. He was an enigma; a competitive and steely figure who could curse like a sailor, yet also possessed the heart and tongue of a poet. All crossword puzzles: completed in pen. A devoted fan of the Indianapolis 500, he attended the past 51 years.
Becht loved fiercely and faithfully and was loved fiercely and faithfully in turn by Sarah Ann Sayger. Their journey in marriage began Nov. 27, 1982, which happened to coincide with his coaching break between high school football and basketball seasons.
Becht’s greatest legacy is two daughters: Edna S. Becht, DO (fiancé, Ed Schneiders) of South Bend, and Savannah D. Jewell (husband Chris), a veterinary student in West Lafayette. They carry forward his love of music, love of literature both classic and comic, his ability to correctly use plural possessives, and the Becht skill of communicating displeasure by raising a single eyebrow. Becht treasured a legion of lifelong friends-all brothers and sisters to his spirit.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Cuma.
Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, and from 11 a.m. to noon Monday. Family and friends are welcome. Critics need not attend.
