Dancing, Toad-Licking Man Told To Leave Property, Refuses
Richard Mullins, 41, LaPorte, was arrested early Sunday morning, June 21, when police responded to a call at JJ’s Sideout Bar & Grill regarding a man refusing to leave the property.
Upon arrival, LaPorte officers observed Mullins standing on the sidewalk barefoot and carrying his sandals with bar security staff nearby. The staff informed police that Mullins was asked for proper identification when entering the bar and allegedly ignored the request and refused to speak with staff.
Mullins was advised that if he did not provide ID he would have to leave. He did not produce his ID and was escorted outside and told to leave the property. Staff said Mullins then proceeded to dance around in the parking lot, where he picked up a toad and began licking it.
Police spoke with Mullins, warning him not to return onto JJ’s property or he would be arrested. Mullins continued to dance on the public sidewalk during the exchange.
The officers left, but kept the area under surveillance. After several minutes, they observed Mullins walk back into the parking lot carrying another toad.
Mullins was taken into custody by LaPorte police and charged with trespassing, a class A misdemeanor.
