Mary Ellen Johnson
Mary Ellen Johnson, 94, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, in her Warsaw home while surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ellen was born June 16, 1921, in Huntington, to Carl C. and Virginia Mae (Dowler) Robinson. She graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1939. Mary Ellen would marry the love her life when she and Ralph “Boag” Johnson were joined as husband and wife on Feb. 10, 1944, in Riverside, Calif. Together they would raise five children and share 61 years of marriage until his passing on July 11, 2005.
Living most of her life in Warsaw, she was a homemaker who also was secretary and realtor for Lucas Realty until her retirement in 1982.
Mary Ellen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader who enjoyed playing cards and dominos with friends and family. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and sewing. She loved animals especially her cat, Pepper, who was her constant companion for the last 10 years.
Survivors with many memories to treasure are her three daughters and sons-in-law: Jorie (Jim) Webster, Winona Lake; Kristine (Larry) Ummell, Kimmell; Leslie (Ray) Barna, Vandalia, Mich.; daughter-in-law: Kerry Johnson Kehoe, Winona Lake; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson. In addition to her beloved husband: Boag; and her parents: Carl and Virginia Robinson; Mary Ellen was preceded in death by two cherished sons: David R. Johnson Jr., on Jan. 18. 1969; and Greg Johnson, on March 2, 2011; and her sister: V. Carleen Folk on May 15, 2004.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing form 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A graveside service will immediately follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Pastor Mike Beezley of Clunette United Methodist Church, Clunette, will officiate.
The family has asked that gifts in Mary Ellen’s memory be given to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, Warsaw.
