Marc A. Smiley
Marc A. Smiley, 58, of Rochester, passed away at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Chase Center Nursing and Rehab, in Logansport following a valiant and courageous 30 year battle with Muscular Dystrophy.
Marc faced greater challenges in the last 16 months, but maintained his dignity and persevered with grace until his final day.
On April 12, 1957, in Rochester Marc Aaron Smiley was born. He was a treasured son of Jack and Joyce Lowe Smiley. Growing up he shared his childhood with a brother Jon. With great Zebra pride he graduated from Rochester High School in 1976.
At the Rochester City Hall on September 18, 1990, with Mayor Phil Thompson presiding, Marc married the love of his life Nicole Beach Smiley. Together they enjoyed over 25 years of life’s adventures.
A devoted employee of the McMahan – O’Connor Construction Company, Marc worked at their concrete plants. He loved watching NASCAR racing, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. as his favorite driver. He was the proud owner of unique money clips and had a pocket knife collection.
Left to cherish Marc’s memory are his loving wife: Nicole, at home; father: Jack Smiley, Rochester; brother: Jon Smiley, Kewanna; his in-laws: Russell and Vicky Dugan, Rochester; Paul and Debbie Beach, Elizabethtown, Ky.; sister-in-law: Jennifer Gamble, Columbia City; nephews and nieces: Cody, Ashley, Echo and Maddox Gamble; grandmother: Sharon Graham, Logansport; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding Marc in death is his mother, Joyce.
A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Good Family Funeral Home. Pastor Terry Baldwin will officiate services. Burial will follow in the family plot at Rochester’s IOOF Cemetery. Friends may visit with his family from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service. Good Family Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
