Raymond L. Lewis
Raymond L. Lewis, 94, Mentone, passed at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Mason Health Care of Warsaw.
He was born on May 13, 1921, in Argos, Marshall County, to Ernest H. and Cloie (Biddinger) Lewis.
He was married on Nov. 25, 1945, in Mentone, to Grace Alice Rans, who preceded on Aug. 12, 2015.
Raymond and his wife owned and operated Lewis Motors of Mentone for 42 years retiring in 1993. He and his wife also owned and operated Lewis Auto Sales of Mentone.
He was a graduate of Argos High School in 1939. He proudly served his country for 3 and half years in the Pacific Islands in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII and was honorably discharged on Nov. 20, 1945. He was an over 70-year member of the Mentone Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a longtime Deacon. He was a charter member of the Mentone Chamber of Commerce and an over 75-year member of the Mentone Lions Club were he was very active. He and his wife were previously honored as Grand Marshall of the Mentone Egg Festival Parade. He will always be remembered as a gentle, quiet man of dignity, integrity, and a community leader.
He is survived by his son: Steve (Lenore) Lewis, Mentone; daughter: Sharon (Gary) Creviston, Xenia, Ohio; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Shawn) Collins, Etna Green; Gennifer (Troy) Eaton; Walnut Creek, Ohio; Carey (Melissa) Lewis, Mentone; Miranda (Marc) Motter, Worthington; Rachel (Simon Ibrahimy) Creviston, Washington, D.C.; eight great-grandchildren: Ryan Castle; Hallie Doberstein; Taylor Eaton; Kara Eaton; Tristyn Lewis; Kaitlyn Lewis; Emily Grace; and Samuel Motter; one step-grandchild: Lillie Collins; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest H. and Cloie Lewis; wife: Grace Alice Lewis; sister: Dorothy B. Bach; and brothers: Richard and Dean Lewis.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at King Memorial Home, officiated by Pastor Michael Wilhite and Pastor George Shoemaker. Burial will be at Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites being performed by Warsaw American Legion and the VFW.
