Wawasee Gymnastics: Warriors Reaching New Heights
SYRACUSE – It’s been a hot minute since the Wawasee gymnastics team has posted scores like what it’s had in its last two duals. After forging a 102.725 in its last meet Thursday at Fort Wayne Carroll, Wawasee rung up a 104.775 in its win Tuesday at home against West Noble’s 76.375.
In its score Tuesday, Wawasee hit its highest mark since last year’s sectional runner-up score of 105-plus, a standard head coach Nika Prather and her staff knows will be needed if it wants to catch Elkhart Central and erase 13 years of sectional championship droughts.
Tuesday’s output against West Noble had the Lady Warriors claim the top five scores in every event as well as the top four all-around scores.
Reagan Atwood was out front for Wawasee all night, scoring 8.65 on vault, 9.125 on beam and 9.425 on floor, all tops in the meet. Her 8.25 second-place score on bars gave her a 35.45 all-around score, topping teammate Jada Parzygnot who had a 35.05, paced by her 8.85 on bars and 9.3 on floor.
Aundreya Wegener had a no-fall beam routine of 8.6 that was second only to Atwood’s total on the apparatus and was at 9.025 on floor, third in the meet.
“We had girls reach some goals today and that is what we like to see,” stated Wawasee assistant coach Sarah Wegener. “We are getting better every meet and fixing the little things. We still have a lot to improve, but we are really proud of how they are performing.”
West Noble’s Kirstin Knox had its top scores on vault (7.9), bars (5.95), beam (6.85) and floor (7.4) to total 28.10 in all-around.
Wawasee will return to action Jan. 26 at home against Warsaw and Peru.
