BREAKING: Milford Fire Department Loses Tanker In Accident
MILFORD — Milford Firefighter Troy Haines suffered minor injuries to the head and hand after the tanker he was driving rolled over while responding to a fire call this afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Old SR 15, south of Turkey Creek Drive, Milford.
Haines was operating the department’s 3,000 gallon tanker and was en route to a fire call at 5 EMS D24 Lane, Syracuse. According to police, Haines stated near Turkey Creek Drive he swerved to miss a dog that had run out onto the roadway. The right front tire went off the roadway pulling the tanker off the west side of the roadway. The water in the tanker shifted causing Haines to lose control of the vehicle. It apparently rolled once, breaking the tanker off the truck’s base. The truck landed upright.
All 3,000 gallons of water spilled onto the roadway and the equipment on the truck was thrown off.
Milford Fire, Milford Police, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Lutheran EMS were at the scene.
The area between Turkey Creek Drive and Camp Mack Road or CR 1100N is closed until the tanker can be removed from the roadway.
Damage is expected to be more than $270,000.
The fire at Dewart Lake was reported to be minor and was turned over to Leesburg Fire Department.
