Desean Jakes, 23, 3790 Curtis Drive N 3476, South Bend, was charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury, battery with moderate bodily injury, and residential entry, all level 6 felonies.
On Jan. 27, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an altercation at an undisclosed residence within Kosciusko County, said the affidavit of probable cause.
The officer arrived at the location. Other police were already at the scene. Police informed the officer they already had one man, later identified by witnesses as Jakes, in custody. Police also told the officer a woman was receiving medical treatment.
Police spoke with two witnesses. The witnesses said Jakes, who did not live at the residence, entered the residence without permission. Jakes allegedly began arguing with two women inside of the residence. One witness noted two children were present at the start of the argument. The witness moved the children to his residence next door, said the affidavit.
One woman claimed Jakes struck her in the face. The blow caused the woman to bite her tongue and start bleeding. Witnesses said Jakes then grabbed a second woman and stomped on one of her knees. This caused the second woman’s knee to buckle, sending her to the ground. The second woman was transported to a local hospital by EMS. The second woman displayed significant pain while being treated by EMS, said the affidavit.
On Jan. 28, Jakes was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance. Jakes has an initial hearing date at 1 p.m. March 13 in Kosciusko County Superior Court 2.
