Facebook Group Connects RV Owners With Medical Staff Who Need To Self-Isolate
MICHIGAN CITY — Medical workers on the front lines of fighting the coronavirus are worried about putting their families at risk every time they come home.
Many are putting plans in place to stay in a separate location from their families, just in case.
For some, the best option to isolate is a camper in their front yard.
The Facebook group RV’s for MDs has more than 18,000 members worldwide and is created specifically to connect medical workers in need of a place to stay with people who may have spare RVs.
Jillian Shawn works as a nurse at Franciscan Health in Michigan City.
The floor she works on is going to turn into a coronavirus ward soon, and she wants to keep her four kids safe.
She said she posted in the group asking for an RV and multiple people were offering within a day!
“I was really blown away by the generosity of strangers,” said Shawn. “I don’t even know these people and they are willing to just let me use their camper for free without knowing them, and it was really touching.”
Jillian says her next best option would have been to wear a mask 24/7 and try to isolate herself in one room of the house.
