Warsaw ran its way to a win Friday night at Huntington North.

Aaron Greene had a whale of a season debut for the Tigers, rushing for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Greene broke off scoring runs of 21, 70 and 54 yards.

Juan Jaramillo rushed 31 times for 120 yards and two scores and Colton Wampler added 37 rushing yards and a touchdown.

In all, Warsaw rushed for a penny short of 500 yards on 70 attempts.

Huntington had Garrett Johnson and Aden Dennis combine for 158 rushing yards and four scores.

Warsaw (1-0) returns home next Friday to host Michigan City.

Culver Academy 16, Tippecanoe Valley 0

The Academy eventually wore down the Vikings, grinding out a win in Akron.

Jimmy Pisani hit Jaxon Mull on a 42-yard passing score in the first half, with Cooper Farrall converting the two-point try, giving the Eagles an 8-0 lead at the half.

After a scoreless third, Pisani put the nail in the coffin with a 29-yard touchdown run in the fourth, taking in the two-pointer on his own.

The Eagles rushed for 271 yards in the game, doubling up the total yards Valley was able to muster in 134 from scrimmage. Both teams turned the ball over four times, but the key in the victory for the Eagles was an 8-1 difference in first downs in the second half, along with Valley not gaining positive yards in the second half.

“When you lose it’s always very frustrating, especially when you work so hard,” said Tippecanoe Valley head coach Steve Moriarty. “I think we gave ourselves some opportunities early. A few dropped passes, a few fumbles here and there. Four turnovers, that always seems to be our frustration here. And that’s the thing.

“And to be honest, we got tired. That tells me we need to condition more, and/or it’s that darn COVID stuff. We got a late start and didn’t practice two-a-ways. Then going one way sometimes hurts us. We did get a lot of kids in tonight. Not just quite in shape.”

The Vikings (0-1) visit Northfield next week to open Three Rivers Conference play.
