WARSAW — Repairs are underway on the Preacher’s Stand at Oakwood Cemetery.
Sexton Hal Heagy announced during the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents meeting Thursday, May 5, that the estimate to remodel the Preacher’s Stand is $2,467.
New steps have been put in and the gutter has been fixed.
A new metal roof was put on the structure in 2015. Heagy plans to put up a new ceiling, replace two doors in the back, put new concrete in the front, paint and put in new seats.
Heagy said this will be worked into the schedule as time allows.
The cost for repairs will come out of the cemetery’s PERM account.
Heagy informed board members that a potential lot purchaser would like to put up a two-crypt mausoleum, which will be stacked rather than side by side. The purchaser is interested in buying six lots in section 74 or 75.
Heagy asked for comments or concerns from board members, as this has never been done in the newer section of the cemetery.
Board member Max Mock said his only concern would be whether this would block another headstone.
Heagy said it would not block another headstone straight on but would from an angle.
Heagy will bring a drawing of the proposed structure to the next meeting. The matter was tabled until that time.
Board President Ken Locke issued a reminder about the Memorial Day ceremony that will be held at the Preacher’s Stand at 11 a.m. May 30. In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will take place in the cemetery chapel.
