Howdeshell Earns Sectional Title
Triton’s Megan Howdeshell captured a sectional championship in the discus Tuesday night in the Rochester Sectional.
Howdeshell let fly with a winning toss of 135-2 for the Trojans. The senior also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 36-3 3/4. She advances in both events to the Warsaw Regional May 22.
Triton finished in sixth place in the final team standings with 44.5 points. Tippecanoe Valley placed eighth with 39. Plymouth won the sectional championship with 129 points.
Also earning regional berths for Triton were Breanna Lemler with a fourth place finish in the 400 (1:04.47) and Autumn Kamm who tied for third in the high jump (4-10). Triton’s 3,200 relay team finished in fourth place to also advance.
Catherin Leadford led Valley with a second place effort in the 300 hurdles in 49.42.
Connor Fraser advanced in both the shot put and discus events for the Vikings as she placed third in the shot put with a throw of 32-7 and fourth in the discus with a toss of 101-4. Caylie Teel was fourth in the 100 for Valley to earn a regional berth and Mikayla Wireman was fourth in the long jump.
