Stanley Hoch Hoopingarner
Stanley Hoch Hoopingarner, 84, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away on June 4, 2012, at the Maples Rehabilitation in Goshen.
He was born on June 8, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., to Fred and Clela Hoopingarner. He was a Syracuse High School graduate in the class of 1945. He received his BA from Ball State University in 1950, then his Masters in 1954 also from Ball State. He was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy in WWII from May 1945 until being Honorably Discharged on Aug. 1, 1946. He was a teacher for 40 years at Syracuse, Wawasee Community, Clinton Community as well as Fairfield. He was a Kiwanis member for 35 years. He was also a 4H Club Leader. On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Catherine Louise Pinkerton who survives.
He is survived by his wife: Catherine Hoopingarner, Syracuse; three children: Elaine (Donald) Bokart, Syracuse; Connie (Herman) Houin, Grosse Point Shores, Mich.; and Steven (Darcy) Hoopingarner, Columbia City; six grandchildren: Janice (Johnny) Davis, Brent (Jessica) Bokart, Kathyrn Houin, Patrick Houin, Ashley Hoopingarner and Christena Hoopingarner.
Calling will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Eastlund Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the funeral home. Ted Mahnensmith will officiate services. Interment will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery with military honors.
