Rheinhardt Leads Locals In All-Star Track
Warsaw’s Spencer Rheinhardt was one of several area track athletes who took part in the Midwest Meet of Champions Saturday in Fort Wayne.
Rheinhardt, who was state runner-up in the 800, placed seventh in the event in a time of 1:55.44.
The annual Midwest Meet brings together the top senior athletes from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. On Saturday, Ohio won both the men’s and women’s competition. Indiana was second in the men’s events and third in the women’s.
Recent Penn High School graduate Kyle Johnston won the pole vault title Saturday. Johnston, who won a state title in the event June 2, cleared a school record and personal best height of 16-9 Saturday.
Skyler Carpenter of Westview won the long jump with a leap of 18-10 1/4 and was second in the 300 hurdles in 42.25. Carpenter won three state championships June 1 to give her seven for her illustrious prep career.
Also at Saturday’s meet, Becca Kropf (Fairfield) was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 45.12, Jenna Pfeiffer (Bremen) tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-2, Jeslyn Zimmerly (Westview) was seventh in the pole vault at 12-0, Melissa DuBois (Concord) was seventh in the long jump at 17-9 3/4 and Dillon Hinen (Fairfield) ran on the third-place 4 X 800 relay team.
