Dwenger Conquers LaFontaine, Wawasee Fourth
Fort Wayne Dwenger picked up a nice team win Thursday, shooting a 343 to comfortably conquer the Huntington Invitational at LaFontaine Golf Course. Marion were second at 355, Homestead in third at 368 and Wawasee claiming fourth place with a 391 in the 10-team field.
Elizabeth Jackson led the Lady Warriors with an 87, which was the seventh-best score of the tournament. Mikala Mawhorter had a 92, Alex Goralczyk a 103, Kylee Rostochak a 109 and Courtney McDaniel at 126.
The Huntington Invite was the first 18-hole tournament for Wawasee, which will play in four host invitationals this season. The second tournament will come next Thursday when the Lady Warriors will take to Lake James Golf Club and the Fremont Invite.
“I thought we played pretty well considering our youth and that three of our players were not familiar with the course,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone.
