Janet M. Smith, 79, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 4:49 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Ind.

On Aug. 28, 1932, Janet was born to Edgar and Emma (Rollin) Ashby in Greenfield, Ind. She married Harold “Hal” Smith on Aug. 16, 1950, in Anderson, Ind. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2007.

A resident of Warsaw since 1950, she worked for JoMac Industries and then Sun Metal Corporation where she worked for 15 years, retiring in August 1994. Janet was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived by three children: Deborah “Deb” (Phil) Brown, Warsaw; Peg (Russ) Rainwater, Spring Hill, Kan.; and Mike (Jan) Smith, Fort Wayne; one brother: Ted (Connie) Ashby, Alexandria; eight grandchildren: Kevin (Cindy) Brown, Katrina (Mike) Albertson, Korey (Sarah) Brown, all of Warsaw; Tanya (Trent) Gordon, Wellsville, Kan.; Tara Smith, Jamie (Josh) Miller, Cassie and Chelsey Smith, all of Fort Wayne; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10, in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. There are no visitation hours planned.

The family requests memorial contributions to be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 North Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
