Caston Rushes Past Trojans
A strong ground game and a fast start carried Caston past Triton 28-20 in the football season opener Friday night for both teams.
The host Comets built a 28-6 lead after three quarters en route to the victory. Triton, which lost 49-28 to Caston a year ago, tallied two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Caston rushed for 287 yards in the win, led by Jeremy Gonzalez. He ran for 152 yards on 26 carries for the winners. Quarteback Quentin Douglass completed just five passes, but two went for touchdowns for the Comets. He also ran for 97 yards on 23 carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run.
Quarterback Bryson Mosier turned in a strong performance to lead Triton. The senior was 9-17 through the air for 120 yards with three touchdown tosses. Mosier connected with DJ Riffle on a nine-yard score, Cody Shively for a 32-yard touchdown and Grant Stichter for a seven-yard tally. Mosier also ran for 47 yards on four carries.
Shively led the Trojans attack with six receptions for 96 yards to go along with nine rushes for 67 yards.
Triton (0-1) plays at Northfield next Friday.
