Geraldine Murphy
Geraldine Murphy, 86, of Logansport, Ind., and formerly of the Akron and Mentone areas, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at her daughter Sharon’s residence.
She was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Silver Lake, Ind., to Arthur and Ruth (Kline) Bergk. On July 22, 1944, she married Lawrence H. Murphy who preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1978. She then married James Earl Murphy Sr., who died on Marc 2, 2006.
Geraldine was a homemaker and loved to garden, crochet, cook and go to garage sales. She also loved all kinds of music.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by two daughters: Charlotte Sue (Al W.) Buttice, Camden, Ind.; and Sharon A. (John) Hughes, Logansport, Ind.; two stepsons: Bill “Buck” (Cathy) Murphy; and Jim (Judy) Murphy; a stepdaughter: Alice (Max) Helvey; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Arthur Bergk, Wabash, Ind.; and Hughie Lieby, Peru, Ind.; and a sister: Polly Arwood, Mishawaka, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a grandson: Ron Buttice; two brothers: Roy and Edward Bergk; a sister: Irene Woodward; an infant sibling; and two stepsons: Mac and Ben Murphy.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Pleasant Cemetery, North Manchester, Ind.
