Lake Tippecanoe Neighborhood Struck By Thieves
The latest neighborhood to report thefts from vehicles is on the south side of Lake Tippecanoe near North Webster.
James Cavender, a resident of T7A Lane in the Lakeside Addition off of Armstrong Road, contacted StaceyPageOnline.com today to warn others about the thefts.
Cavender says at least four of his neighbors all reported having their vehicles entered overnight last night. Among the missing items are CDs, cash, change and cologne and perfume. “It sounds like kids to me,” Cavender explains, noting other tools were left untouched in his vehicle.
Thefts from vehicles have been going on for much of the summer months. on July 26, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said they were investigating approximately 20 thefts that had occurred over a two-week period.
Money, electronics and other items have been reported stolen from vehicles left unlocked and parked outside in the overnight hours. KCSD Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hill said in every one of those instances the vehicles were left unlocked.
Cavender admitted his vehicle was also left unlocked and, while he says his neighbors are also reporting the thefts, he has not heard of any of the vehicles actually being broken into.
Warsaw Police also dealt with over two dozen thefts from vehicles that occurred over a two-week period earlier this month.
Residents and guests are encouraged to lock their vehicles at all times to prevent the thefts. “In every case the detectives say the vehicles were entered, not broken into,” said Hill of the county thefts. “It’s still a crime, but it could be avoided if people would just lock their vehicles.”
