Wawasee Sports Wrap – Sept. 5
The Wawasee girls golf team added two more wins to its résumé with a double over West Noble and Whitko. The Lady Warriors used a medalist 45 from Alex Goralczyk to score a 194 to host West Noble’s 220 and Whitko’s 239 played at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse.
Elizabeth Jackson and Mikala Mawhorter continued to mirror each other in scores heading into the final days of the regular season, both shooting a 49 while Courtney McDaniel continued her improved play with a 51 and Kamryn Foy turned in 55 to round out the Wawasee scorecard.
Whitko’s Sam Stahl paced the Lady Wildcats with a 55 while Taylor Pottinger and Hannah Himes each fired 59 and Emily Weigold added the fourth score at 66. April Bishop had a 67 to complete the Whitko lineup.
West Noble were led by a 50 from Rachel Stahlman and 55 from Paige Shearer. Bre Whitney had a 56 and Haley Teel a 59 for the Lady Chargers.
“Alex played another solid round for us,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “The thing that is good is that we are recovering from our bad holes and still shooting decent scores.”
Wawasee (12-6) will host Fremont at Maxwelton Thursday night in the final match of the regular season before taking to Bent Oak and the Northern Lakes Conference tournament on Saturday.
Wawasee and Whitko will both take part in the Warsaw Sectional on Sept. 15 at Stonehenge.
