Vikings Thunder Past Southwood
WABASH – The Tippecanoe Valley football team stormed its way past Southwood Friday night.
Literally.
The Vikings blasted the Knights 45-0 in a Three Rivers Conference game that was called at halftime due to lightning.
Valley lit up the scoreboard with 27 first-quarter points en route to its third straight victory. The Vikings added 18 points in the second stanza versus the winless Knights.
Nolan Sponseller led the way for coach Jeff Shriver’s squad with three touchdowns runs. Sponseller scored from four, 13 and 14 yards out for the Vikings.
Justin Gunter tallied two touchdowns on runs of five and eight yards for Valley. Jacob Ritchey scored on a two-yard run and Mason Teel hauled in an 18-yard touchdown toss from Ben Shriver as the Valley offense rolled for the second straight week.
Gunter rushed for 61 yards on nine carries in one half of work. Sponseller had seven rushes for 42 yards. Shriver hit on 6-11 passes for 90 yards.
Valley out gained Southwood 225 to minus two in total yards in the one half that was played. The hosts had minus 23 yards rushing in the half.
Valley improves to 3-1 overall and goes to 2-0 in TRC play. Southwood drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.
Valley hosts Northfield and Southwood plays at Rochester in action next Friday night.
