Vikings Roll To Another TRC Victory
WABASH – The Tippecanoe Valley football team lit up another opponent’s scoreboard Friday night before having its second game of the season stopped early.
The Vikings whipped winless Wabash 45-0 in a Three Rivers Conference game called shortly into the third quarter due to lighting problems.
Valley, which improves to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the TRC, beat host Southwood 45-0 in a game called at halftime due to lightning on Sept. 7.
The Vikings wasted no time in routing another overmatched league foe Friday night for their fifth straight win of the season since a loss to Culver Academy in their opener.
Valley scored 19 points in the opening period and 20 more in the second stanza to lead 39-0 at intermission. The Vikings added one more touchdown in the third period before the game was called.
Tanner Andrews had a huge night for Valley in the rout. He caught a pair of touchdown tosses from Ben Shriver, one for 54 yards and another for 30, and also returned a punt 67 yards for a score.
Justin Gunter scored twice for the Vikings. He ran five yards for his first score and caught a 50-yard touchdown toss from Shriver. Jared Littlejohn scored on a 31-yard run and Nolan Sponseller on a five-yard run for the winners.
Quarterback Shriver made the most of his seven pass attempts on the night. The junior was 4-7 for 146 yards with three touchdown tosses.
Wabash drops to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the TRC.
Valley hosts Rochester in a huge TRC contest next Friday night in Akron. The Zebras also stayed unbeaten in league play Friday night with a 9-6 TRC win over Manchester.
