Wawasee Sports Wrap – Sept. 27
NorthWood poured it on in the second half, scoring five goals to cap a 6-0 victory Thursday night in the regular season finalé for both girls soccer clubs.
Taylor Stutzman scored the only goal of the first half, but proved to be the game winner. Val Ostrowski scored a pair of goals in the second half and Inger Yoder, Rylee Carothers and Jessica Burt all added solo goals.
Wawasee (3-11-1, 0-7 NLC) head into the Warsaw Sectional on a seven-game slide, having been shut out in six of those contests. The Lady Warriors drew the bye and will play either Culver Academy or Warsaw in Thursday night’s second semi-final.
Marshall Saves Plymouth
Clay Marshall found the magic for Plymouth, scoring the only goal of the second half to break a 1-1 tie to push the Pilgrims to a 2-1 victory in Plymouth.
Alex Orellana got Plymouth (4-9-4) on the board with the first goal of the game, but Wawasee’s Derek Stutzman equalized with a strike, assisted by Jordan Acton. Marshall’s goal sent Wawasee to 2-12-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the NLC.
Caleb Glon made six saves, but Plymouth were too much in the JV game, winning 3-0.
Wawasee will face Warsaw back in Plymouth next Wednesday in the Plymouth Sectional.
Plymouth Roll In Freshman Football
Ol’ Rocky Top kept on singing Thursday night as Plymouth rolled up Wawasee, 41-0, in freshman football in Plymouth. Harrison Shortill and Ben Moore were credited with exceptional defensive work.
