NW Chamber Tweaks Bylaws
Getting down to business was on the minds of members of the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting today at the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Bylaws Chairman Stacey Cox of Pletcher Insurance, explained upcoming changes. The term of president will be adjusted to two years, down from three. The third year will be spent as the past president and advisor to the newly elected president.
Cox explained, “According to state law, the secretary and treasurer cannot be elected but must be appointed by the board, so this will change too.”
These will affect the nomination process for board members and officers. Now, only the president will be selected at the November meeting along with six board members, who will fill current vacancies.
Final nomination ballots were submitted to president Tonya Bowser, The General Store and Stella and Dot, during the meeting. All nominees will be or have been contacted to see if they will serve. Those who agree to the nomination will be placed on the ballot, which will be distributed to the membership by email and will be on the website, www.northwebster.com. Voting will take place at the Nov. 12 general meeting.
Sue Ward, chairman of the Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival, which was held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Mermaid Festival grounds, was pleased with the weather, activities and the continuing upswing in attendance. The decorated hearts made by area business will continue to be on display at the North Webster Community Center until the end of the month. Some are still available for purchase with those funds putting the festival into the black along with the money from the helicopter rides.
Linda Land of the American Legion and Cox are co-chairing the Visit with Santa. The first committee meeting was held today at noon at the American Legion. Santa Claus will be coming to town on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the North Webster Community Center.
Jen Ducey, Tippecanoe Township, and chairman of the cookbook committee reported ads are still coming in. It was also made known by several who attended and worked at the Heart of the Community Charity Auction and Raffle to benefit the North Webster Community Center, that it was successful.
Bowser announced to the membership that the chamber board had agreed to renew membership of Dixie Days in the Art and Earth Trail and the Wawasee Community School Corp., as a community service, will send email blasts of upcoming events for the chamber as well as other organizations.
Ward and Land will co-chair the annual membership Christmas party, which will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Tippecanoe Township Building, 102 S. Morton St., North Webster. Social hour will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. All members and their employees and significant others are welcome to attend. There will be a cost per person, which is yet to be determined. Besides the party, there will be no general membership meeting during December.
