Vikings Crush Chargers
LIGONIER – Everyone got into the act for the Tippecanoe Valley football team Friday night.
The high-octane Vikings exploded offensively in whipping West Noble 44-0 in a first-round playoff contest.
Valley rolled up 479 yards on total offense in creaming the host Chargers in a Class 3-A Sectional 18 opener.
Valley, now 8-2, will host Heritage (8-2) next Friday night in a sectional semifinal contest in Akron. Heritage defeated Lakeland 42-16 Friday night. The other semifinal in Sectional 18 will pit Whitko (4-6) at No. 1 Jimtown (10-0).
Coach Jeff Shriver’s team, which clinched a share of the Three Rivers Conference title last week, clicked on all cylinders Friday night against West Noble, which ends its season at 1-9.
Valley, which entered the game averaging 33 points-per-contest, lit up the scoreboard with 44 points in the first three quarters of the rout.
Junior quarterback Ben Shriver was outstanding for Valley. He connected on 7-12 passes for 138 yards with a pair of touchdown tosses. Shriver also scored on a 23-yard run.
Justin Gunter rolled up 145 yards on 13 carries to lead the Viking ground game, which piled up 341 yards in the victory. Gunter scored on runs of 24 and 75 yards.
Chris Torpy also went over the century mark for Valley with 137 yards on 11 attempts. Torpy scored on a 43-yard run. Jacob Ritchey scored twice, on a four-yard run and a five-yard toss from Shriver. Tanner Andrews caught a 29-yard scoring strike from Shriver.
The Valley defense also did its part in the lopsided win. The Vikings allowed the Chargers just 76 total yards.
