Kenneth ‘Buzz’ Keller Sr.
Kenneth “Buzz” Keller Sr., 84 of Bourbon, Ind., passed away at 6:37 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Ind.
Kenneth was born April 12, 1928, at Hobart, Ind., to William Keller and Rose Block Keller. He was a graduate of Hobart High School and furthered his education at Ball State University and received a Master’s degree at Valparaiso University.
He was a resident of Bourbon for the past 45 years. Ken was a Veteran serving in the United States Army in the Korean War. He was a retired teacher from the Triton School Corporation, retiring in 1992. He taught Shop, Earth Science, was a guidance counselor and athletic director.
He was an avid sports fan and was an IHSAA official referee. He officiated in basketball, baseball, track and football. Ken had such a passion for sports; he built the current high school baseball field by himself, which has been named Ken Keller Field. He was a Cubs and Bears fan.
Kenneth also served his community as a past town board member, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Bourbon American Legion Post #424.
On May 22, 1955, he joined in marriage to Gloria J. Black who passed away Oct. 21, 1991.
Kenneth is survived by his four children: Ramona Keller and Maria Keller, both of Bourbon; Cindy (Dave) Shaffer, Osceola, Ind.; and Kenneth Keller Jr., Bourbon; and his three grandchildren: Justin and Craig Shaffer and Gloria Keller.
Proceeding in death were a sister: Helen Keller; and two brothers: Walter and Robert Keller.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St. Bourbon. Funeral services will beat 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor David Gould officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bourbon with military graveside services by the Bourbon American Legion.
