Heritage Hammers Vikings
AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley football team saw its stellar season end Friday night at the hands of Heritage.
Led by quarterback Conner Sheehan’s incredible performance, the No. 9 Patriots pounded the host Vikings 49-8 in sectional semifinal play.
Sheehan threw for 376 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score as Heritage rolled in the Class 3-A Sectional 18 contest. Heritage, now 9-2, advances to play No. 1 and undefeated Jimtown next Friday night in the sectional championship game.
Valley sees its season end at 8-3.
Sheehan, one of 21 senior starters for Heritage, connected on 16-23 passes for his 376 yards. He connected on touchdown throws of 15, 44, 61, 50 and 23 yards and also ran for a touchdown.
The Patriots built a 28-0 lead in the second quarter before Valley scored. Heritage, which totaled 545 yards of offense, led 42-8 at halftime.
Senior Wil Knapke had six receptions for 177 yards, including touchdown plays of 44 and 61 yards for Heritage.
Justin Gunter scored on a 28-yard run for the Vikings’ lone touchdown. Gunter led the Valley offense with 19 rushes for 142 yards.
Junior quarterback Ben Shriver was 5-13 passing for 79 yards for Valley. Dayton Cohagan had three receptions for 79 yards for the Vikings.
Valley played without top receiver Tanner Andrews, who was out due to a concussion suffered in the sectional opener Oct. 19. The Vikings were also without three linemen, two due to injuries, and one who was forced to sit out after being ejected during the sectional opening game win at West Noble.
