Ingwald W. Johnson
Ingwald W. Johnson, 68, of Plymouth, Ind., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 12, 1944, to Ingwald R. and Arlene (Lawmaster) Johnson, in Argos, Ind.
Ingwald was a member of the West High School Class of 1962. Years later, he and another member of that class, Jerry Wilson, erected a memorial in the old school grounds commemorating the flowing well at the school. He was an active member of the West High School reunion committee.
Ingwald served in the Indiana National Guard, South Bend Unit, from 1965-1971. He lived in the Plymouth area most of his life. He established his roofing company, Ingwald Johnson Roofing in 1967 and continued to work in the roofing industry until just recently.
He was an active member of the Michiana Roofing Association for many years. He was also a member of the Midwest Roofing Association and the National Roofing Association. He regularly attended the annual National Roofing Association conventions as well as the Midwest Roofing Association seminars. He also attended the European Roofing Association convention in Hamburg, Germany. His company’s achievements were published in several roofing trade magazines.
Ingwald was a member of the Swedish Lodge, Linne’ NO. 153, Vasa Order of America, in South Bend. Aside from his roofing company, Ingwald loved working with his hands on projects, whether it was fencing on the farm, remodeling, or vehicle repair. He also had a lifelong love of animals, horses being his favorite, like Mocho and Gunner.
Ingwald is survived by his daughters: Regina McClain, Plymouth; and Kristen Schittino, Safety Harbor, Fla.; his son: Ingwald G. Johnson, Tampa Bay, Fla.; six grandchildren: Ryan McClain, Brandon McClain, Calvin King, Halie King, Carmella Schittino and Kaylee Johnson; his brother: Mike Johnson, Plymouth; and his niece: Jennifer Biglane, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Kristina K. Johnson; and his niece: Jocelyn Johnson.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
