Jackson Leads Undefeated Lady Lancers
WINONA LAKE – Juaneice Jackson scored a game-high 18 points, and Allison Kauffman posted a double-double to lead Grace’s women’s basketball team to a 71-51 win over IU-Southeast on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers improved to 3-0 to start the season with their impressive win over the Grenadiers (0-1), who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Poll.
IU-Southeast scored the first bucket of the game, but the Grenadiers would not lead the rest of the way. The Lady Lancers seized control of the lead with 10 unanswered points and never looked back.
Grace held IU-Southeast to under 30 percent shooting from the field in the opening half and entered halftime ahead 32-21.
Similar to the first half, Grace ripped off 10 straight points to start the second half as they held a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the game.
The Lady Lancers shot a sizzling 50 percent on their field goal attempts in the second half. They nailed 15-of-30 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Jackson did her damage on 5-of-6 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She also tallied four assists and three steals.
Kauffman’s second career double-double came thanks to 13 points and a career-best 14 rebounds. She pulled down seven of Grace’s 14 offensive boards. Overall, the Lady Lancers held a plus-20 advantage in rebounds.
The Lady Lancers recorded 19 assists on 29 made field goals, led by six assists from Jayla Starks. Starks amassed 6 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals to along with her 6 assists.
Emily Bidwell added eight points and four rebounds, and Rianne Aguilar scored six points off the bench.
Grace’s next game is on Tuesday when they travel to face Indiana Tech at 7:30 p.m.
