Wilvin Teel
Wilvin Teel, 97, of Milford, Ind., passed at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Milford, Ind.
He was born May 7, 1915, in Fulton County, Ind., to Melvin and Hattie (Kindig) Teel. He married Lucille Joy Stutzman Whetstone on Nov. 2, 1946, in Akron, Ind. He and his wife moved to Milford in 1984 from the Akron and Mentone area.
Wilvin was a grain farmer. He graduated from Talma High School and served his country proudly in WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He had decorations and citations of an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. He served 44 months on the Pacific Front surviving the battle of Marianas Islands.
He enjoyed repairing lawn mowers, going to garage sales and playing cards. His real passion was always fishing.
He is survived by his wife: Lucille Teel, Milford; a daughter: Luana (Ted) Myers, Indianapolis, Ind.; a son: Jim Teel, Rock Island, Ill.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Denny Teel; a step-son: Bill and Susan Whetstone; a sister: Ruth Noe; a half-sister: Mildred Harrold; three brothers: Hershell, Ransford and Wilford Teel.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, with military rites being preformed by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Warsaw.
