Wawasee Storms Past Fairfield
SYRACUSE — A huge third quarter from KiLee Knafel, who scored 14 of her game-high 34 points in the frame, pushed Wawasee past Fairfield 64-43 Saturday night at the Hardwood Teepee.
Knafel hit two of her five three-pointers in the third as Wawasee outscored the visitors 22-13 to break open what was just a five-point lead by Wawasee at the half. Knafel is averaging 33 points per game in the three wins by the Lady Warriors, which all have come against Northeast Corner Conference teams, the first two wins were at Westview and Lakeland.
Erin Wiktorowski added a career-high 13 points and Kylee Rostochak also had a career-high nine points to aid Wawasee. The win by Wawasee was the largest margin of victory since a 35-point win in 2007.
Fairfield (1-1) were led by the 10 points from Haley Brown and seven points apiece from Destiny Setterberg and Jenna Kieper.
The JV game had Fairfield hold on for a 23-20 win over Wawasee.
Wawasee (3-0) will return to the court on Friday when it travels to Kendallville and a post-turkey date at 2-1 East Noble. Fairfield will regroup for a Friday matchup at Central Noble.
