Trine, Grace Team For Dual Degree Program
Grace College, along with the Warsaw community, welcomed Trine University to the area during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.
The Trine University Warsaw Education center, next to Grace College, is part of a dual degree program with both schools that students can complete in four years. Students who finish this program will graduate with a Trine degree in Bachelor of Engineering and a Grace College Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics.
“For a long time, we’ve had degrees in pre-med, pre-dental and all the biological sciences,” said Dr. Ronald Manahan, president of Grace College, “this allows us to get into the physical sciences. Our students will get an engineering degree through Trine and a physical science major from Grace.”
Trine University, whose main campus is located in Angola, Ind., selected Warsaw after success with their students in the past.
“I think the nature of the Warsaw community, heavy in the orthopedics industry, has a very high engineering need and a specific skill set,” said Dr. Earl D. Brooks II, president of Trine University. ” A number of students from our main campus have done senior design projects working with Zimmer, DePuy, Biomet and a number of others in the community so we knew it’s a good market and it fulfills a need.
“We don’t have to provide all four years but a two-plus-two program with Grace. They were very kind to help provide this facility and this space. It’s worked very, very well.”
