Warsaw Girls Second In Own Invite
WARSAW – The Warsaw girls swim team notched a second-place finish Saturday in its own first-ever invitational.
The host Tigers totaled 479 points to take runner-up honors in the seven-team event. Muncie Central claimed the team title with 591 points.
Jessica Haines and Ashley Van Wormer each captured individual wins to pace Warsaw. Sophomore Haines won the 500 freestyle race in a time of 5:56.21, while junior Van Wormer topped the field in the 100 breaststroke event in a top time of 1:11.82.
The Tigers also took second place honors in all three relay events. The foursome of Haines, Van Wormer, freshman Liz Slough and senior Jessica Sweatland placed second in the 200 medley relay. The 200 freestyle relay team of junior Cynthia Juarez, Sweatland, senior Meghan Boston and freshman Erin Sandberg also placed second as did the 400 freestyle relay squad of Juarez, Haines, Boston and Samdberg.
Juarez also earned a second place finish in the 200 freestyle race.
Warsaw hosts Huntington North Tuesday and entertains conference foe Northridge Thursday evening.
