Opal D. Nellans
Opal D. Nellans, 88 of Grace Village Retirement Community of Winona Lake, Ind., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., and Mentone, Ind., passed away at 1:03 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Grace Village.
She was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Marshall County, Ind., to Delbert L. and Bessie H. (Guise) Wilson. On May 18, 1946, she married Byron Nellans in Akron, Ind. He preceded her in death.
Opal worked at Uniroyal Inc. of Mishawaka, Ind., for 14 years. She was a longtime member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. Opal was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mentone where she had been president. She joined the Pleasant View Bible Church of Warsaw in 1997 when she moved to Warsaw. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Dancing Grannies of Warsaw.
She is survived by a daughter: Bonita Nellans, Warsaw; two sons: Edward (Melba) Nellans, Marion, Iowa; Brant E. (Shirley) Nellans, Winona Lake; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Louise Peffley, Winona Lake.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Luceal Pritchard and Dorothy Kerchner; and five brothers: Orean, Charles, Laurie, William and Edgar.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the funeral home with Pastor Ryan Petgen. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
