Prep Roundball Wrapup
A balanced offensive attack carried Tippecanoe Valley past Lakeland Christian Academy 71-36 in boys basketball action Tuesday night.
Tanner Andrews netted 16 points and Alex Thacker added 12 as 10 different players scored for the host Vikings.
Valley, which improved to 3-1 with its third straight win, led 23-13 after the opening period. The Vikings took control of the contest by outscoring the Cougars 18-8 in the second quarter to build a 41-21 advantage at halftime.
Zarek Finley led LCA with 12 points and seven rebounds. Collin Price also had 12 points for the Cougars, who drop to 1-3 with their third straight setback.
Valley won the junior varsity contest by a 68-18 final.
Valley (3-1) plays at Glenn Saturday night. LCA (1-3) hosts South Bend Trinity Saturday afternoon.
Trojans Roll At Home
It was a case of Home Sweet Home and a large dose of Clay Yeo that carried Triton to a lopsided win Tuesday night.
Senior star Yeo poured in 36 points as the Trojans topped North Miami 75-44 in their home opener of the 2012-13 campaign.
Triton, which had dropped its last two at Plymouth and at NorthWood, blazed to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter en route to the rout. The Trojans, now 2-2, led 45-13 at halftime.
Seth Glingle scored 12 points and Tanner Shepherd 11 for the Trojans.
The game saw the two teams combine to shoot 62 free throws. Triton was 23-of-30 from the line, while winless North Miami went 20-of-32.
Triton won the junior varsity game 50-23.
Triton (2-2) continues its tough early-season schedule at Class 3-A No. 9 Mishawaka Marian Saturday night. The Knights feature Notre Dame recruit and Mr. Basketball candidate Demetrius Jackson. North Miami (0-3) hosts Pioneer Saturday night.
Wildcats Notch First Win
Whitko picked up its first victory of the young season Tuesday night by downing Central Noble 53-43 in South Whitley.
Coach Scott Wessel’s Wildcats improve to 1-4 on the season.
Whitko plays at Wawasee Saturday night. Central Noble (0-4) travels to Westview Saturday night.
