Jesse Butler
Jesse Butler, 85, of Warsaw, Ind., went home to be with the Lord at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Mason Health and Rehab of Warsaw.
He was born on April 14, 1927, in Buladean, N.C., to Mitchell Butler and Nancy (McKinney) Butler. On Dec. 7, 1963, Jesse was married to the love of his life, Roxie N. Holbrook Prater in Adrian, Mich. She passed away on Sept. 9, 1996.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country during WWII on the U.S.S. LST42. After his discharge he moved to Adrian, Mich. In 1947 Adrian worked for Stubnitz & Green which was later called Johnson Controls. He worked on a line making car seats and later delivered car seats to auto plants all around the Detroit, Michigan area. Due to an injury he retired in 1982 after 33 years of service.
In 1987 Jesse and his wife moved to Warsaw. He loved the Lord and was a member of Harvest Community Church of Pierceton, Indiana; and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Adrian.
He is survived by his daughter: Linda Prater, Winona Lake, Ind.; a son: Jesse M. (Stephanie) Butler, Dexter, Mich.; and two grandsons: Adam Prater, Winona Lake, Ind.; Jesse M. Butler III, Dexter, Mich.; and a sister: Rosie Sergeant, Houghton Lake, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Roxie; three brothers and two sisters.
His visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Glenn Hall. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 49 and V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw.
