Prep Roundball Wrapup
A big third quarter performance carried the Triton girls basketball team past Bremen 60-39 Friday night in Bourbon.
The Trojans outscored the Lions 22-6 in the pivotal period to break open the Northern State Conference contest.
Triton, No. 10 in Class 1-A, led just 26-17 at halftime versus the winless Lions before the big third period effort.
Kylie Mason netted a game-high 16 points to lead Triton, which won its fourth straight game to improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the NSC.
Taylor Hatfield had 14 points and Mallorie Jennings eight for the Trojans, who hit 22-of-30 free throws in the win. Breanna Lemler and Krystal Sellers each had seven points for Triton.
Sara Slabaugh led Bremen (0-8, 0-2) with 14 points.
Triton hosts Rochester Wednesday. Bremen hosts Concord Tuesday.
Whitko Drops Close One
Host Manchester nipped Whitko 48-44 in a nip-and-tuck Three Rivers Conference contest Friday night.
The hosts outscored the Wildcats 16-11 in the final quarter to notch the league win.
Kalene Freshour scored a game-high 17 points to lead Manchester, which improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the TRC. Sydney Snep had 10 points, Autumn Brewer nine and Bekah Brunn eight for the Squires.
Freshman Jennifer Reiff led Whitko with 11 points. Melanie Kelsey had 10 points and Josie Sparks added nine for the Wildcats, who are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The game was tied 10-10 after the opening period and Manchester led 22-20 at halftime. The Wildcats inched ahead 33-32 after the third stanza. Whitko hit 20-of-27 free throws, while Manchester was just 12-of-24.
Whitko plays at West Noble Thursday. Manchester hosts Southwood Friday.
Valley Posts Conference Win
Tippecanoe Valley defeated North Miami 59-38 Friday night in a Three Rivers Conference game in Akron.
The Vikings improve to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in TRC action. North Miami falls to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Valley hosts Winamac Thursday evening.
