Warsaw Girls Post NLC Swim Win
WARSAW – The duo of Erin Sandberg and Margot Rheinhardt led the way for the Warsaw girls swimming team Tuesday night in a big win over Plymouth.
The pair each won a pair of events and swam on two winning relay teams as the host Tigers pounded the Pilgrims 133-42 in Northern Lakes Conference competition.
Freshman Sandberg topped the field in both the 200 individual medley (2:33.45) and 100 backstroke (1:14.58) races. Rheinhardt, a junior, won the 50 freestyle in a top time of 27.25 and was also victorious in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.92.
Senior Jessica Sweatland also had a strong meet for coach Nate Long’s Tiger squad. She won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.50 and also swam on a pair of first-place relay teams too.
Cynthia Juarez was also an individual winner for Warsaw, taking first in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:08.93.
The 200 medley relay team of Emily Thompson, Rheinhardt, Sandberg and Juarez won in a time of 2:10.91. The foursome of Sweatland, Rheinhardt, Sandberg and Ashley Van Wormer captured the 200 freestyle relay race in 1:55.62. The 400 freestyle relay team of Sweatland, Van Wormer, Thompson and Audra Harman won in 4:23.68.
Warsaw improves to 4-2 overall and evens its NLC record at 2-2.
The Tigers travel to Elkhart Memorial Saturday to face the Crimson Chargers in another NLC meet. The league contest is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.
