WHS Holiday Concert Is Tuesday
Wawasee High School Instrumental Music Department presents the string orchestra in “No Strings Attached,” a concert of holiday music, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the high school auditorium.
Under the direction of Joyce Dubach, the orchestra will open with the popular Christmas tune “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The finale will be a medley of holiday tunes including “Jingle Bells,” “Patapan,” “Deck the Halls,” “The Boar’s Head,” and “Here We Come A-Wassailing.” In between the opening and closing numbers, however, the orchestra will be performing several musical selections without a conductor.
This “chamber music” style of playing requires the musicians to listen and respond to one another, rather than follow a director’s baton. While the orchestra has occasionally performed a piece or two in concert this way, this is the first time a majority of the concert will be performed without a conductor.
The orchestra invites the public to this performance — admission is free.
