Herbert R. ‘Herb’ Gilmore Jr.
Herbert R. “Herb” Gilmore Jr., 81, of North Webster, Ind., passed away at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1931, in Cadiz, Ind., to Herbert R. and Clio Belle (Yelton) Gilmore.
He graduated in 1949 from Anderson High School and served in the U.S. Navy. On Sept. 10, 1955, in Muncie, Ind., he married Sandra J. “Sandy” Sult who survives. He had been a summer resident of North Webster for 40 years before moving there permanently 11 years ago. He was formerly employed at State Farm Insurance Co. in Muncie for 20 years and Kroger’s supermarkets in Muncie and Anderson for 11 years.
He formerly attended the Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Muncie and was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Muncie.
He is survived by his wife: Sandy Gilmore, North Webster; a daughter: Julie (Mike) Pierce, Columbia City, Ind.; a son: Mark (DiAnn) Gilmore, Muncie, Ind.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchidren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Shirley Ann Davis, Anderson, Ind.
He was preceded by his parents and step-great-grandson: Michael Pierce.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and C.R. 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at noon Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Beezley of the Clunette United Methodist Church officiating. Military graveside services will be at noon Monday, Dec. 31, at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery on IN 36 near Pendleton, Ind., with Pastor David Smitley of the North Webster United Methodist Church officiating.
Memorial bequest may be given to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, 1515 Provident Drive, Suite 250, Warsaw, IN 46580. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
