Man Critical After Jumping From Vehicle
A verbal argument between a father and son ultimately led to a Warsaw man being airlifted in critical condition after he jumped from a moving vehicle.
It happened at 5:41 a.m. this morning on CR 800 West just south of CR 850 North near Nappanee. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department release, Jerry Lee Charles Belcher, 21, of Warsaw, sustained extensive head injuries and was unconscious when police and Nappanee medical personnel arrived.
KCSD deputies report that Belcher was a passenger in a pickup truck that was being driven by his father, Johnny L. Belcher, 41, also of Warsaw. The men were on their way to work when they began arguing. As the interaction intensified, the younger Belcher opened the passenger door and jumped from the truck.
Johnny Belcher immediately stopped the truck and went to find his son, who was lying in a ditch. A third person in the vehicle confirmed what had happened.
Nappanee EMS immediately requested Med-Flight air ambulance to transport Belcher from the scene to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Kosciusko County Fatal Accident Crash Team says he remains in critical condition at this time.
