UPDATE: Freezing Rain Advisory
The Winter Weather Advisory that was supposed to go into effect at 3 p.m. today is now a Freezing Rain Advisory.
The National Weather Service office in Syracuse has cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory and have now issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Kosciusko County and surrounding areas. The advisory will go into effect at 3 p.m. today and expire at midnight.
Meteorologists are forecasting sleet and freezing rain to overspread the area and persist until temperatures rise above freezing by Sunday night. Light accumulations of ice up to a tenth of an inch are expected. The result will be slick roads and walkways.
Freezing rain and ice can be the most dangerous and difficult conditions for drivers and plow trucks because it affects vehicles of all sizes, including those with four-wheel drive. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid non-essential travel within the times and areas where a coating of ice is forecasted to accumulate.
Drivers can monitor road conditions and traffic alerts across the state at any time by phone, web or social media. Visit www.TrafficWise.IN.gov or dial toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623) for INDOT’s TrafficWise Traveler Information Service.
