Handcuffed Man Runs From Police
A short foot pursuit near Mentone Saturday night ended with one subject arrested on several charges.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Claypool officers went to an area of Palestine Lake Saturday night to serve two active warrants on Matthew Dillan Mahaska, 20, Mentone. Mahaska was found walking along CR 600 West near Blue Jay Drive at approximately 7:02 p.m.
Officers detained and handcuffed Mahaska and located several stolen items in his possession. Officers say Mahaska suddenly started running back toward homes near Palestine Lake. He was quickly apprehended by officers.
Officers were originally serving active warrants on Mahaska for felony theft and felony failure to appear, but have added preliminary charges of resisting/fleeing law enforcement and possession of paraphernalia. Mahaska is currently in the Kosciusko County Jail with a bond of $17,500.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Detectives also stated Mahaska’s arrest on Saturday night has provided information to his involvement with a burglary in the Burket area in recent weeks. Detectives said additional charges are possible for that incident.
