BZA Approves Produce Building Near Milford
Selling produce grown on his own property, Don Bucher petitioned the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals to have a building built during the board’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning in Warsaw.
Bucher’s petition specifically asked for an exception to allow a 36 x 64 building for the sale of fruit, vegetables, plants and honey and also offering old canning, cooking and other food preparation classes. The property is located at the intersection of CR 300 East and CR 900 North in Van Buren Township.
Matt Sandy, assistant planning director for the county, noted the food items sold will be grown on Bucher’s property. Part of the original petition included asking for a “restaurant type facility,” Sandy said, but it was withdrawn by Bucher.
In conjunction with the petition, a separate petition was approved for a variance to allow a 32 square-foot sign for the business.
In other business, the BZA approved petitions by Robert and Patricia Thompson and Steven Grapenthien that were heard together. The Thompsons live on Debra Drive, east of Venetian Drive in Turkey Creek Township, and petitioned to sell property to Grapenthien, a neighbor, that would result in a lot size of 7,770 square feet when the ordinance requires 10,000 square feet.
Grapenthien petitioned to build an addition to a house on the property he will acquire from the Thompsons.
Also on the agenda, the BZA approved a variance for Clay Brooks to allow an existing accessory building to remain as placed on Emeline Street at the intersection with Oak Road in Milford. Apparently there was a misunderstanding regarding the setback required, Sandy noted, though a property survey revealed it was in compliance.
The BZA also approved petitions for:
• Joseph and Paulette Moody to permit construction of a guest house on Bayshore Drive in Turkey Creek Township.
• And John and Joyce Zern to permit construction of a residence accessory building on North Road, west of North Channel Drive in Turkey Creek Township.
