Accidents
Officers of the Warsaw Police Department recently investigated the following accidents:
Saturday Feb. 2, 2:48 p.m. 590 West 300 North. Drivers: Cameron T. Coplin, 18, 500 South, Mentone; and Dorothy Gonzalez, 20, West Park Avenue, Bourbon. Coplin attempted to pass Gonzalez in the Kohl’s parking lot when she believed Gonzalez was attempting to turn left. Coplin attempted to pass along the right and struck Gonzalez’s vehicle. Damages: up to $2,500
Sunday Feb. 3, 1:26 p.m. 150 West. Drivers: Terry L. Perkins, 65, Hartzler Street, Warsaw. Perkins was traveling north on 150 West when he struck a deer. Damages: up to $2,500
Monday Feb. 4, 4:42 p.m. East Center and South Hickory Streets. Drivers: Vicente Rodriguez, 27, Old Colony Road, Warsaw; and Tiffiany Brown, 22, 250 South 87, Warsaw. Rodriguez, who was south on Hickory Street, pulled out into the intersection in front of Brown, who was unable to avoid collision. Damages: up to $2,500
Monday Feb. 4, 11:28 a.m. Lake City Highway and North Detroit Street. Driver: Kalib G. Vanderlinden, 23, Ashford Court, Warsaw. Vanderlinden slid on a patch of slushy ice and went off the roadway and into a retention pond in a ditch. Damages: up to $2,500
Tuesday Feb. 5, 4:08 p.m. South Bronson Street and East Winona Avenue. Drivers: Mitchell Stewart, 19, Homestead Street, Rossford, Ohio; and Leo D. Kerber, Arthur Street, Warsaw. Stewart ran a red light at Bronson Street and East Winona Avenue intersection colliding with Kerber, who had the right of way. Damages: up to $5,000
Wednesday Feb. 6, 2:49 p.m. 100 North Detroit Street. Driver: Lois J. Stone, 66, 400 West, Claypool. Stone was parking at CVS when she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the break when stopping causing her to strike into the south CVS wall. There was no apparent structure damage to the store. Damages: up to $1,000
Wednesday Feb. 6, 11:24 a.m. 1610 East Center Street. Driver: Doris M. Woodward, 86, Channel View Drive, Warsaw. Woodward was attempting to pull into a parking space when her new shoes came off the brake pedestal causing her to strike into a fence and support awning for the business. Damages: up to $2,500
Wednesday Feb. 6, 8:03 a.m. Wexford Place. Driver: Brenn K. Welsh, 16, Pine Mills Road, Warsaw. Welsh was eastbound on Wexford Place when she attempted to go around a curve and slid on ice. Welsh went off the road and struck a nearby parked car owned by Susan K. Compton. Damages: up to $2,500
Thursday Feb. 7, 6:01 p.m. Walton Boulevard and Jalynn Street. Drivers: Andrew Spears, 22, East Market Street, Warsaw; and Tiffany, L. Harris, 32, South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Spears was traveling on Walton Boulevard when he struck the Harris vehicle. Spears then proceeded to leave the scene of the accident. Spears was administered alcohol testing (.14 and .13). Damages: up to $2,500
Friday Feb. 8, 12:46 a.m. Unnamed E/W Alley and Tamarack Street. Drivers: James Grindle, 37, Rozella Road, Warsaw; and Stuart A. Hanft, Husky Trail, Warsaw. After witnessing Hanft involved in an alleged attempted break-in, Grindle was pursuing Hanfts vehicle. After attempting to go east in an alley, Grindle struck into Hanft’s vehicle. Hanft was administered a drug test. Damages: up to $2,500
Friday Feb. 8, 11:36 a.m. East Old Road 30 Division and Kosciusko Drive. Drivers: Kylee R. Bryant, 18, Kuder Lane, Warsaw; and Kirk L. Jacobsen, 56, North Orchard Drive, Warsaw. Bryant pulled out in front of Jacobsen. Both vehicles were towed. Jacobsen complained of pain in his back, chest and knee and was taken to Kosciusko County Hospital. Damages: up to $10,000
Friday Feb. 8, 2:45 p.m. 1401 East Smith Street. Drivers: Margaret A. Vannevel, 55, Broadway Street, Mishawaka; and James t. Streator, 75, 100 East, Claypool. Vanneval was westbound through the YMCA parking lot when she began backing up eastbound through the parking lot striking Streator. Damages: up to $2,500
Friday Feb. 8, 3:07 p.m. Shelden and Detroit Street. Drivers: David L. Hyde, 46, East Levi Lee Road, Warsaw; and Mark E. Flaugh, 51, North Webster. Hyde was stopped at Sheldon Street for a red-light when he began backing up ultimately causing him to strike Flaugh who was stopped behind him. Damages: up to $10,000
Friday Feb. 8, 4:24 p.m. Jalynn Street and North Detroit Street. Driver: Luis R. Duenas, 17, Pierceton Road, Winona Lake. Duenas was stopped at a red light at the Jalynn and Detroit streets intersection when he was rear-ended. Duenas exited his vehicle to assess the damages when the driver of the green sport utility vehicle that ran into him drove away. Damages: up to $2,500
Monday Feb. 11, 7:54 a.m. Enterprise Drive. Drivers: Vesta M. Baker, 29, West Center Road, Sidney; and Matthew L. Brown, West Center Street, Warsaw. Baker purposely struck Brown’s vehicle while it was parked then drove away. Brown reported the accident to police and Baker admitted to intentionally hitting Brown’s vehicle. Damages: up to $1,000
Saturday Feb. 9, 2:25 p.m. North Bronson and East Center Streets. Drivers: Rickey R. Sexton, 37, North Washington Street, Pierceton; and Maria Frazier, 28, South Cleveland Street, Warsaw. Sexton was northbound on Bronson Street when he ran a red light and struck the driver side of Frazier’s vehicle. Upon Frazier’s request, she and her two children were driven to Kosciusko Community Hospital for evaluation, however, there were no apparent injuries. Damages: up to $25,000
Sunday Feb. 10, 11:46 a.m. Argonne Road and East Center Street. Drivers: Evan B. Essig, 19, Muirfield Road, Winona Lake; and Kimberly A. Chestnut, 26, North Park Avenue, Warsaw. Essig, who was northbound through the intersection at Argonne Road and East Center Street, failed to yield at intersection and turned left crashing into the side of Chestnut’s vehicle. Essig complained of back pain. Damages: up to $5,000
