David L. Mize, 73, Syracuse, Ind., passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at his home.

He was born on May 4, 1939, in Lake Station, Ind., to Leland L. and Rose Elizabeth (Bush) Mize.

He graduated in 1958 from East Gary Edison High School in East Gary, Ind., and formerly worked for United States Steel in Gary, Ind., for 27 years. He moved to Syracuse in 1991 from Lake County, Ind., and retired from Wawasee School Corporation as a custodian after 13 years of service. He was also a  member of Eagles Aerie 3760 in Syracuse.

He is survived by four sisters: Dorthea (Ed) Vision, Brownsburg, Ind.; Betty Terry, Lake Station; Elizabeth Mize; Michelle Mize, Lake Station; one brother: Ron (Judy) Mize, Lowell, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Debbie Mize; a sister: Marge Mize; and his companion: Patricia Hall.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to  5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Private entombment will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, Ind.
