Nail-A-Thon Seeking Donations For Habitat
Nail-A-Thon 2013 is currently underway in Kosciusko County and its goal is to build houses.
The Women Build committee of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County was formed in 2012 with a goal to fully fund and staff the construction of a Habitat home with female volunteers. To date, more than $37,000 has been raised toward the total goal of $77,358 and more than 120 volunteers have registered to participate.
A family has been approved to be the partner family who will ultimately end up owning the home, slated to be built this year. Partner families pay for the home through a 20 year to 25 year interest-free mortgage allowing the proceeds from the repayment of the loan to build more homes in the future and must also put in 250 hours of sweat equity per able bodied adult.
The Nail-A-Thon campaign is new for the local Habitat for Humanity, which is trying to raise the money to build a home for single mother Diane and her toddler son, Keatrine.
Along with efforts to sign volunteers, the Nail-A-Thon also offers donation opportunities. Club donations are available in 1-pound, 5-pound, 15-pound, 25-pound and 100-pound denominations. The donation amounts equating with the Nail-A-thon Clubs are $64, which will fund a bathroom fan with light; $320, which will fund a kitchen cabinet with counter; $960, enough to fund three bedroom windows; $1,600 to accommodate for studs for wall framing; and $6,400, enough to cover the cost of insulation.
