YMCA Wraps Up Winter Season
WARSAW — The YMCA’s Sharks swim team just ended a fantastic winter season. As a team, the Sharks took first place in its conference and second place at the YMCA State Meet. At Age Group State, the team placed 40th out of 94 teams.
Jayden Parrett and Spencer Davidson qualified to swim at the Senior State Championship. At the Age Group State Championships on March 15-17, Zach Taylor placed 10th in the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley, 15th in the 100 backstroke and 16th in the 100 butterfly. Ethan Cook finished 16th in the 150 freestyle.
The 13 and 14 year old boys relay group of Zach Taylor, Ethan Cook, Hudson Snyder and Jacob LaLonde placed 14th in the 400 free relay, 12th in the 200 free relay, and 15th in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Alex Cook, Grant Knight, Evan Borchers and Nick Zogbi also qualified for the 200 free and 200 medley relays in the 11 and 12 year-old boy age group.
Brenna Morgan placed fifth in the 50 free, eighth in the 100 free and ninth in the 200 free. This qualified her to swim at Y Nationals in Greensboro, NC, the first week of April. Morgan also set the record at the YMCA State in the 50 and 100 freestyles in her age group.
At Y State, the Sharks had several who won high point trophies: Gracie Willig and Ian Wihebrink in the 8-U age group, Morgan in the 13-14 age group, Nathan Roberts in the 15-over age group, Taylor Gunter took third high point in the 9-10 girls age group, Erin Sandberg was second in the 13-14 girls age group, Taylor took first and Cook third in the 13-14 boys age group.
Cook set a record in the 50 free for the 13-14 boy age group and Parrett set a record in the 200 back and 200 free in the 15-over age group.
This season the team had 105 swimmers ages 5 to 17. The Sharks will begin their summer season April 29, registration starting April 1.
As a member of the Sharks, swimmers will develop their competitive skills, stroke techniques and endurance in a supportive learning environment. Participation builds character, teamwork, and encourages individual achievement. Every Sharks swimmer has the opportunity to compete in meets throughout the season. Swimmers must be at least 5 years of age, able to swim one length of a 25 yard pool while putting their face in the water, and must be a member of the YMCA.
