Fantastic Five Set For All-Star Action
MISHAWAKA – A handful of area senior standouts on the hardwood are scheduled to play Monday evening in All-Star action at Bethel College.
Five local players, a trio of young ladies and a pair of young men, are slated to compete in the McDonald’s Michiana All-Star basketball games in the Wiekamp Center.
Selected as teammates for the Gray team for the inaugural girls contest are the Warsaw duo of seniors Lindsay Baker and Jennifer Walker-Crawford, along with Wawasee senior KiLee Knafel.
Baker and Walker-Crawford helped lead coach Michelle Harter’s Tigers to a 24-2 mark during the 2012-13 campaign, including conference, sectional and regional championships. Baker, a guard, has signed to play at the University of Toledo, while forward Walker-Crawford is headed to Kentucky Wesleyan University.
Knafel, a high-scoring guard, poured in 24.3 points-per-game this season for coach Kem Zolman’s Warrior squad. The IUSB recruit finished second in school history in career scoring with 1,651 points.
The boys contest, which is in its second year, is slated to have Warsaw’s Jared Bloom and Triton’s Clay Yeo as teammates for the Red team.
Bloom, a guard, averaged 17.7 ppg. his senior season in pacing coach Doug Ogle’s team to a Class 4-A sectional title.
Yeo, a 6-6 guard, led Triton to a 20-6 season and a Class 1-A state runner-up finish on Saturday. The Valparaiso University recruit averaged 26 ppg. this season and finished his prep career as the all-time leading boys basketball scorer in Marshall County history with 1,992 points.
The girls game is slated to tip-off at 5 p.m. Monday night with the boys game to follow.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students and will be available at the door at the Wiekamp Center on Monday evening.
